Maggie Du's Report: My New Red Shoes(MNRS) is a Non- Profit Organization with the mission to help the basic needs of children by delivering necessities, mainly that of shoes, and providing economic assistance to stabilize vulnerable households during the crisis.
The September 24th event was the first partnered event between the ShinShin Youth Group and My New Red Shoes. After our volunteers checked in, the staff introduced their program to assist the urgent effort in Ukraine by delivering donated boots to the refugees fleeing the war, as well as assigning us the task to sort boots by category.
Because the boots arrived in bulk, volunteers needed to arrange and organize the storage of shoes before they were prepared to be sent out. The boots were sorted into columns by gender, size, color, and style. Volunteers then divided each column of the same category into plastic bags holding 50 pairs of boots each to be packed into boxes for shipping to Ukraine.
Participating in the effort to support the refugees in Ukraine was truly a gratifying and purposeful experience for Shin Shin. We are very proud to be a part of assisting the vision of My New Red Shoes and such a relevant and important cause.
Grant Han's Report: MNRS works to improve the quality of life and well-being of children and youth experiencing economic hardship by providing them with shoes and other clothing items. Since 2006, they have helped to promote a sense of belonging and dignity for more than 90,000 students in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Our task today was to organize shoes so they could be delivered to refugees in Ukraine. Any pairs of shoes that could not be shipped overseas will be given to disadvantaged local children. I felt proud knowing that I was helping a lot of people in need such as refugees in Ukraine. It was also nice to get to know other volunteers. I would definitely do something like this again so I
can contribute more to society.
