The Animal Assisted Happiness (AAH) volunteering event that took place on the morning of July
16th was an insightful experience for ShinShin members on the maintenance and care of small
critters. Prior to attending the service, each person was required to check in with the
supervisors. Afterwards, the participants were separated into groups and each assigned to a
different animal enclosure. The farm had a variety of animals, including the usual farm animals
like chickens and goats, but also had guinea pigs, ducks, and doves. The main assignment for
the entirety of the morning was to tidy up the farm by cleaning the animal waste of each
enclosure. Despite the unappealing nature of the task, our time at the farm remained a very
educational experience on the many different species, and was a great way to learn about and
interact with animals.
