Shin Shin Youth Group
Summer Cultural Exchange
2019
The Summer Cultural Exchange Program is a special project in which students travel to China and go into the classrooms at Shin Shin Elementary Schools. This year, summer of 2019, about 30 youth group volunteers went to schools in the provinces of Shandong, Anhui, and Sichuan. They were involved in a variety of subjects—English, science, music, art, PE, robotics, and more. Volunteers prepared class materials, including presentations and activities. In June, they went to China to teach the students, who were eager to learn and excited to meet their new friends from America. Through this program, volunteers gained insight into rural life in China, while students learned about American culture and lifestyle. The volunteers strengthened their leadership skills, as they had to manage an entire class and serve as role models for the students. Although the program only lasted 1 to 2 weeks, volunteers formed lasting friendships, helped students develop a love for learning, and encouraged them to pursue a brighter future.Overall, the Summer Cultural Exchange Program was a rewarding experience for both the volunteers and the students. I highly encourage you to participate!
