On April 2nd, 2024, Shin Shin Youth Group members Alexander Liu and Melody Dai, volunteered at the ROLF (River of Life Foundation) Food Pantry in San Jose. We arrived at around 9:20 in the morning and left after 1:00 pm. Our tasks included opening boxes and bags of food items and loading them into boxes that would be given to people in need. Melody’s mom also participated in the work.
After we arrived and checked in, the manager had us each handle a certain food item and load them into the boxes on carts that would be pushed around to the people who would be receiving the food. We would fill a box with a certain food item and dump a specified amount into each cart’s box. The break was originally scheduled to be at noon, but it was moved up to 11:15 am due to the large amount of people to distribute food to. At roughly 12:50 pm, there were no more people to distribute food to, and the youth volunteers were told to help clean up. Some of the food items were rotten or spoiled, so we tossed them all into a box and got rid of it while we were cleaning up.
