Today on April 13th, Shin Shin Group Volunteers Alexander Liu, Jasmine Qian, and Emma Lee, volunteered at RAFT (resource area for teaching). Our tasks included preparing math festival kits, sorting and packaging science kits, and cutting fabric into 3x10ft rectangles. We arrived at 9:30 am and left at 12:00 pm. Emma’s mom also joined the volunteer work.
All four of us worked on packaging the science kit before the break, and Alexander, Emma, and her mom cut fabric, while Jasmine continued to package the science kits. The science kits consisted of a small bag containing a pipette tip, a plastic pivot point, and six paper clips and a larger bag with two papers and warning and caution stickers stuck on the outside about choking hazards and age requirements. The fabric needed to be cut into 3ft by 10ft rectangles, which was conveniently the size of one of the carts, so the manager had us fold the fabric, put it on the cart, and cut it. We would then cut that in half, roll it up, and tie it with a rubber band. When the volunteering was almost over, the manager had us count and tell her how much fabric we had rolled up.
