Three Shin Shin youth group volunteers went to the Family Giving Tree warehouse to participate in the back to school drive for students in need during the morning of Wednesday, July 27. This was Family Giving Tree’s 17th year doing this warehouse event, and they have a goal of preparing 26,000 packed backpacks to be sent to kids who aren’t able to afford supplies for school ranging from grades K-12. The main task of our volunteers today was preparing and checking the quality and items in the backpacks one by one, making sure that the necessary supplies were in the backpacks and met all requirements. Each backpack was full of essential supplies like notebooks, folders, erasers, markers, colored pencils, tissues, earbuds, rules, etc. We realized very few of the backpacks met the requirements, and many were far from it, so almost every single backpack we checked needed to be manually worked on by our volunteers. The two hours went by quickly as we worked continuously to make sure the supplies would be fairly and neatly handed out to the students receiving them. We had a lot of fun in this experience as well!
