Shin Shin Volunteer Events: August 12-13, 2022 Convoy of Hope San Jose Community Event
Maggie:
On the August 13, 2022 community event, hundreds of volunteers arrived at the Convoy of Hope San Jose location to prepare for the inspiring hours ahead. A humanitarian and faith-based nonprofit organization, Convoy of Hope was founded in 1994 with a mission to feed the hungry and bring help and hope to the communities that need it most.
The event was packed with a huge assortment of diverse booths and activities, including a back-to-school booth, food booth, shoe booth, and even a Kids’ Zone filled with several bounce houses and a rock-climbing wall. Everything at the event was completely free of charge and available for all guests.
Upon arrival, the volunteers were assigned to groups for each separate booth of the event. Responsibilities for the volunteers included welcoming and directing guests, making and distributing lunches and groceries, providing school supplies and backpacks for students, fitting guests with shoes, and operating the Kids’ Zone.
The ShinShin Youth Group volunteers worked mainly in the shoe and food booths, giving to the families and children that struggle with poverty and hunger, and may not have such accessibility to these valuables. On this single day, we serviced thousands of guests, fitting and giving away hundreds of pairs of sneakers to boys and girls, men and women, from the shoe booth alone. Frank:
On Saturday the 13th Of August I participated in the convoy of hope it was amazing, to say the least, to see all of those people we were helping and to be helping through distributing food and being able to see all the services the event organizers have planned. It was incredible how though out the event was planned with many necessities being covered, and over it was a great time and we helped a lot of people.
